Rise before dawn and roll out across the plains in an open 4x4 as the light comes up and the wildlife stirs. Big Five game drives put you in the heart of Tanzania's great parks — Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire — where lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino move through open country in numbers you rarely see elsewhere.

Your guide reads tracks, listens for alarm calls and positions the vehicle for the light and the moment. Between the marquee sightings there's a constant cast of giraffe, zebra, hyena and hundreds of birds — every drive is different.
