What to pack for a Tanzanian safari

The golden rule of safari packing: bring less, in earthy colours. Bright whites show every speck of dust and bold colours can spook wildlife; stick to khaki, olive and tan.
Layers matter more than you'd expect. Mornings on a game drive can be genuinely cold, while midday bakes — so pack a warm fleece, a light rain layer, and breathable shirts you can peel down to.
Don't forget a good pair of binoculars, a wide-brimmed hat, high-SPF sunscreen and insect repellent. Soft-sided duffels are far easier than hard cases for light-aircraft transfers and tent storage.
Most importantly: leave room. You'll want space to bring home a few memories — and a kanga or two from the market.
